Forgive: To give up resentment against or the desire to punish; pardon

I have learned in my life what true forgiveness is. It took me many years to know the feeling of being free of hate, vengeance and anger towards others I had for those who have hurt me in my life. It took may years of soul searching but I have come to a point I am free from all of that.
There was many times in my journal writing that I would write a letter of forgiveness to one of my relatives and say I forgave and the next letter in my journal to him I acted like I didn't forgive him. I hit a point in my life that I wanted to forgive but I wasn't ready to forgive. You can't forgive unless the heart is not ready to forgive.
I was at the point I wanted vengeance. Hebrews 10:30 says "For the One who has said "vengeance belongs to me, I will repay, and again, the Lord will judge his people." I cannot give vengeance only God can do that!!
Then there is the punishment for not forgiving. Mark 11:25-26 says "And whenever you stand praying if you have anything against anyone, forgive him, so that your Father in heaven will also forgive you your wrongdoing. But if you don't forgive, neither will your Father in heaven forgive your wrongdoing." Also Ephesians 4:31-32 says "All bitterness, anger and wrath, insult and slander must be removed from you, along with all wickedness. And be kind and compassionate to one another forgiving one another, just as God also forgave you in Christ." So if you don't forgive you will not be forgiven by God.
Forgivness is not just a one time choice. Forgiveness is a choice day by day, hour by hour, minute by minute. No one is perfect. You might slip up on that point but as long as you get back on the side of forgiveness you are trying your hardest and that is all God asks you to do.
There are those who say they forgive but they have not. I have been there myself. I have to admit that is a lie. Every time you say forgive someone in your heart and you haven't it is a lie. Plain and simple.
Now my Grandma always said "forgive and forget" but you don't have to do that as long as what someone did to you stays in the past and not in the here and now. Some people hold onto the past for so many years. It has even been known to break up entire families and/or friends. Put the past where it needs to be in the past.
God put us on earth for one reason "to love" and part of that love is to forgive. As I was trying to find a way to forgive the last person on my list I was racking my brain how to do that when the simple truth hit me: God forgave me for my evil and sin I did what gives me the right to not forgive his evil and sin he did? I could not. I was forgiven so I must forgive. I hope and pray you do they same thing today in your own life.

GOD BLESS YOU ALL!!!
